Pastor's  Note
September 2008

The official end of the vacation season has never impressed me. Perhaps that is because I lived in Minnesota and the vacation season started at noon and ended by supper. One thing nice about Labor Day, for me, used to be that all the kids were back in school so Becky and I could vacation in relatively uncrowded areas. But no matter what, Labor Day signifies a change in things. School has started, we think of summer being over, we remember those who labor, time moves on.

Drive by the church property and there is no doubt that time is moving on. We are getting closer and closer to moving into the new facility. As we do, anxieties about the work to be done pop up. Sadness over the change in season of the current facility to the season of the new facility can tug at our hearts. But time goes on and we cannot stop time.

The apostle Paul talked about two seasons; he talked about the “in Adam” time and the “in Christ” time. The Adam season is one in which we are ruled or led by the law. And we know how that worked out. We had to be reminded that all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. The Christ season is one in which we live now. We live as joyful people who know how much God loves us and forgives us.

So as things change around us and we feel nostalgic about what is being lost, or if we are anxious about what is to come, maybe it would be helpful for us to remember that the times have not really changed. We are still living in the time of Christ. For us that will never change.
