March 29 Worship

Readings for the Day:
Isaiah 50:4-9: The servant of the Lord expresses absolute confidence in his final vindication, despite the fact that he has been struck and spit upon.  This characteristic of the servant played an important role in the early church’s understanding of the suffering death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Philippians 2:5-11:  Paul uses an early Christian hymn to help us comprehend Jesus’ obedient selflessness on the cross and how God has made Christ lord over all reality.  The perspective of the cross becomes the way we rightly understand God, Christ, our own lives, and fellowship within the community of Christ.
Matthew 21:1-11:  Holy Week begins with a palm procession and the proclamation of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem from the Gospel of Matthew.  Christ enters the assembly now, just as he did then, and we praise his presence among us.  ‘Hosanna’ is now our song.

Questions To Ponder:
1— What does the suffering of Jesus mean to you? (Isaiah 50:4-9)
2—As you enter Holy Week, how could acknowledging Jesus’ emptying help you through your own? (Philippians 2:5-11)
3—What does hosanna mean?  What does this mean for you today? (Matthew 21:1-11)
4—How do these texts speak to you today?

Prayer:  Sovereign God, you have established your rule in the human heart through the servanthood f Jesus Christ.  By your Spirit, keep us in the joyful procession of those who with their tongues confess Jesus as Lord and with their lives praise him as Savior. Amen.
