Readings for the Day:
I Kings 19:9-18: Exhausted and discouraged, Elijah flees into the wilderness expecting to encounter God in dramatic displays of power. Instead, God comes in the sound of sheer silence, renewing Elijah's purpose and reminding him that he is not alone—that God has preserved a faithful community and continues to work in quiet, often unseen ways.
Romans 10:5-15: Paul proclaims that salvation is not something we earn but a gift received through faith in Christ. This good news is meant to be shared, reminding the church that faith grows through hearing the message of hope carried by those who are willing to proclaim it.
Matthew 14:22-33: As the disciples struggle against wind and waves, Jesus comes to them walking on the sea, offering reassurance: "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid." Peter's attempt to walk toward Jesus reveals both the possibilities of faith and the reality of human doubt, while Jesus' saving hand demonstrates that Christ's grace is stronger than our fears.
Questions To Ponder:
1— Where might God be speaking gently into your life when you are expecting something more dramatic? (I Kings 19:9-18)
2—Who first shared the good news of Christ with you, and how might you share that hope with someone else this week?
(Romans 10:5-15)
3—What "storm" are you facing today, and how might trusting Christ help you take the next faithful step? (Matthew 14:22-33)
4—How do these texts speak to you today?
Prayer: You are great, O God, and greatly to be praised. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Grant that we may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you. Amen.
