Readings for the Day:
Isaiah 56:1-6: Isaiah envisions God’s people as a community shaped by justice, righteousness, faithfulness, and welcome. Those who might have considered themselves outsiders are assured that faithful devotion to God brings them into the covenant community and gives them a place among God’s people.
Romans 12:1-8: Paul urges believers to offer their whole lives to God as a “living sacrifice,” allowing their minds and lives to be transformed rather than simply conforming to the world around them. Within the body of Christ, each person has different gifts, and those gifts are meant to be used faithfully for the good of the whole community.
Matthew 16:13-20: When Jesus asks the disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter responds by confessing Jesus as “the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus blesses Peter and speaks of building the church upon this confession, giving the community of faith the responsibility to bear witness to Christ and participate in the work of God’s kingdom.
Questions To Ponder:
1— How might God be calling us to widen our understanding of who belongs within the community of faith? (Isaiah 56:1-6)
2— What gifts has God given you, and how might you use them to strengthen the body of Christ? (Romans 12:1-8)
3— If Jesus asked you, “Who do you say that I am?” how would you answer—not only with your words, but with the way you live? (Matthew 16:13-20)
4—How do these texts speak to you today?
Prayer: You are great, O God, and greatly to be praised. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Grant that we may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you. Amen.
